Walking Trail
Impala Trail
Length – 6.2km
Sites – Rock Waterhole, Kibu Hide, Lone Tree Plain, Ndege Hide, Eland Pan, Old Airstrip and Matamba Plains
This trail takes you past the paddocks and stables, then down towards the hide. The views across to Welgevonden and Marakele are spectacular. The duration of the walk is about one and a half hours.
- Start below ablution block and turn right
- At junction turn left
- Just after the release boma turn right onto a game trail the paddock will be on your left
- At road turn left and follow road
- Pass between staff housing and small paddocks
- Turn right downhill as the paddocks end
- At fork keep right and next fork keep left
- Junction straight
- Cross straight over the cut line
- Follow road keeping straight till the hide and waterhole
- At the hide turn right
- At junction keep right heading up hill
- At cross road turn left
- Pass the entrance to Mara’s camp
- At junction turn right up the hill
- Next junction turn right and pass Kibu hide and waterhole
- Cross road turn left up the hill and keep straight to T junction
- Turn right
- At fork keep left to pass the rock waterhole
- At the cut line cross straight onto game path and then to the road back to camp
